In Search of Life
Delighted to be among a group of artists to explore sacred geometries and abstract patterns: Citrus Sunrise (left) and Riverbank (right). Now on show at Eclectica Contemporary in Church Street, Cape Town. Other featured artists are Anthony Lane, Lars Fischedick and Georgia Lane.
Many artists throughout history have looked to nature for inspiration, using elements like color, texture, and form to inform their work. The Impressionists were inspired by the play of light and color in nature, while artists in the Arts and Crafts movement looked to natural forms for inspiration in their decorative work. In the Western tradition, we can trace this relationship back to the ancient Greeks, who saw beauty as a harmony of proportions and a reflection of the cosmic order.
The group of artists exhibiting in this show have sought to find ways to integrate art and nature in a more harmonious way. Yasmine Yacoubi explores landscapes through an abstract lens, while Lars Fischerdick’s artworks are reduced to their most elemental forms, using simple geometric shapes and colors to evoke the simplicity and harmony of nature. Georgia Lane works from memory and painting becomes a meditative process in which she participates with subconscious aspects striving foremost for honesty and simplicity of thought. - Eclectica Gallery, May 2023
